What kind of music do you listen to? 2009-09-28 09:18:33
When I was in my teens, I lie to my friends when they ask me what type of music I prefer to listen to. Being close to my dad, I was exposed to a lot of oldies, classical, keroncong and the likes.
You know what I mean. I inherited his taste in music.
Translation: I inherited the taste in music from a 50 year-old man.
In school, when friends were busy scribbling lyrics of songs sang by Mariah Carey or Tupac or KRU in their jot book, mine was filled with songs sang by Paul Anka, The Carpenters and of course The Beatles (!). I thought I was cursed! And other kids weren’t any help at all. Either they make fun of my preferences, or they dissed me from their discussions (in music). Nobody were interested to exchange tapes with the collection that I had -- soundtracks from the movie Grease, My Fair Lady, The Sound Of Music…
Of course, certain music genres are more accepted by the public. But people who are involved in those industries do not have the right to feel more superior to people who are involved in the less famous music genre industries.
Try to remember, have you ever made a face when someone tells you that he or she likes dangdut? Not that I have anything against dangdut (really), just trying to use the best example based on the small survey I made.
So what if you like trance and I like dangdut?
So what if “Aku suka jaipong, kau suka disko, owh, owh, owh.”
Music is more than that people. Let’s respect what each of us favours, instead of putting each other down.
Let’s create a healthy music community, here in Gundu.
